In a world full of surface-level conversations and highlight reels on social media, it’s easy to feel like genuine connection is missing.
That’s why events like the Practical Philosophy Meetup in Toronto stand out—they create a rare space where people gather to talk honestly about what really matters.
And recently, I, Giovanni Maccarrone, certified Life Coach and founder of Inspire Yourself Life Coaching, had the opportunity to speak there as a co-host.
The experience was more than just a talk—it was a powerful reminder of why open conversations, self-reflection, and community are so essential in today’s fast-paced world.
A Space for Real People and Real Conversations
The Practical Philosophy group isn’t your typical meetup.
There’s no fluff, no pretension—just real people exploring big questions together:
When someone gives something to me, do I feel guilty if I don't give back to them?
What is toxic masculinity and toxic feminity?
How would you define fate and destiny?
These aren’t easy questions, and that’s exactly the point.
This community isn’t afraid to sit with the hard stuff.
The group draws together people from all walks of life, each bringing their own stories, struggles, and perspectives to the table.
It’s not about having all the answers—it’s about exploring the questions with honesty.
That’s why I was so excited when Jeff, the organizer and a driving force behind the group, invited me to speak.
We share a belief in the power of real, grounded conversations to spark growth.
What We Talked About
When I took the floor, I knew I wasn’t there to lecture. Instead, I wanted to explain how this group works and to feel comfortable expressing yourself in this discussion, while being interested in other people's opinions and perspectives.
The topic that day was Toxic Masculinity and Toxic Feminity, a potentially heated topic.
Why These Conversations Matter
As a Life Coach in Toronto, I often work with people who feel stuck—not because they don’t want to grow, but because they’ve never had the space to explore how.
That’s what makes something like Practical Philosophy so important. When people come together to share, question, and learn from each other, real shifts can happen.
In fact, many people who attend this meetup say things like:
“This is the only place I can really talk about what’s going on inside me.” “People can actually have respectful conversations here. It's amazing.”
And that’s the point. Growth doesn’t happen in isolation. We need other people—not to fix us, but to reflect us back to ourselves.
That’s what Practical Philosophy does on a community level.
